Nutrition Article

I’m a glutton for punishment so I regularly buy-out the magazine stand when I do my weekly round of food shopping. I buy each and every one of those slimming, or dieting magazines that I can find since I’m forever on the lookout for any information that I can find on these subjects. I find the true-life stories of some of these people to be positively inspiring and hope that someday I too can do the same. It was on one of my numerous forays into these magazines that I found a nutrition article that gave me a lot of insight into my eating habits.
It was really a different story that had caught my eye, but I stumbled across this nutrition article quite by accident and started reading through it quite idly. I was stunned to find that I could barely put the magazine down by the time I reached my car to load in the groceries. It wasn’t a full length book by any means, but this particular nutrition article was interesting enough that it caught and kept my attention.
Basically I found out what kind of eater I was – the boredom eater, I ate when I was bored or tired – and I found a few great ways in which I could try and control my bad eating habits. For my case since I ate when I was bored it was recommended that I keep a few nutritious snacks around the house to assuage my boredom hunger. This was easy to do since I love my fruits and all I did was stock up more on fruits and kept them handy.
The next one was slightly more difficult since I also like my chocolate fixes, but the nutrition article was adamant about this, so I had to throw out all my chocolate. And I was banned from stocking up on any more. If and when I had a chocolate craving the nutrition article said that it would be easier and more of a deterrent if I had to go out and buy it. The same applied to ice cream but I wasn’t too fussed about that one anyway.
Next the nutrition article went on to tell me about the various foods that I should include in my everyday diet, and which ones I should stay away from. It explained the food guide pyramid in great detail and gave me a great insight into how I could manage my meals. I also found that I was eating most of the “right” foods but that I was eating them in the wrong quantities, more of meats and fats over cereals, grains and fruits.
The nutrition article that I came across that day was to me heaven-sent and helped me put my life back on track. I now eat healthier snacks of fruit, and sometimes carrots. I also indulge myself in the finer things in life by eating all the good-for-me food that I want.

Low Carb Diets
If you’ve dieted at least once any time within the past few years, there’s a good chance that the diet you went on was one of the many low carb diets that are around these days. Although the very first of the low carb diets, the Atkins diet has been around for at least 30 years, the trend for low carb diets has only taken off very recently.
This can probably be accounted for by some media hype along with a number of genuine success stories. And when you throw in a celebrity or two into the mix, you’ve the makings of a new fad. Everybody then jumps on the bandwagon which in this case turned out to be low carb diets.
What you need to ask yourself if you’re thinking of trying one of these low carb diets is if the Atkins diet is so popular now, and really works to help you in reducing your weight, why didn’t it gain in popularity long before this? After all it has been around for as long as 30 years. That’s a long tome for a diet to be around without anyone noticing it until the later stages of those 30 years.
And if these low carb diets are as good for you as all these books and practitioners of the diets will tell you, then why is there so much opposition to these diets from nutritional and medical sources? These are questions that only you can answer if you want to find out the truth, but if all you want to do is lose some weight then these low carb diets are ideal for you. The only thing you won’t truly know for certain is what kind of long term effects these low carb diets will have on your system.
Sure you’ll reduce the weight and lose the fat off your frame, but at what cost? And the Atkins diet isn’t the only low carb diet that you will find. There’s the ever popular Zone diet, the South Beach Diet, the Hollywood diet, the Stillman diet, and a host of other low carb diets. These diets are all similar in that they promote a high fat, high protein, and low carb intake. Each diet has its own differences and quirks and which one you try depends on what you’ve heard, or read, about these low carb diets.
For the constant yo-yo dieter these low carb diets may be just what they need, since despite any drawbacks that it might have they do work, and they do help you to lose weight. If you’re going on a diet, and it doesn’t matter overly much which diet it is, you should always be sensible and diet sensibly too. Losing a few pounds quickly won’t help you in the long term. If you keep to the guidance of these low carb diets though, your dieting problems shouldn’t be all that numerous and you might even find that you’ve left them all behind.

Kids Nutrition
Being a parent isn’t the easiest job in the world, and it certainly gets even more difficult at meal times. What can you give your kids nutrition wise that they will eat? These days it’s come to being an almost impossible decision what with all the advertisements for fast foods that kids are bombarded with on an almost minute by minute basis. How can you compete with a greasy burger and fries accompanied by the latest must have toy included free?
I tell you it’s almost impossible and I had all but given up where my kids nutrition was concerned. It was so much easier when they were smaller and they had to eat what I set in front of them. At least then they got some nutritious food into their bodies. These days, it’s more along the lines of a battle field. I set a plate of delicious home cooked baked chicken in front of them and they just stare at it in disgust and tell me they want fried chicken!
I don’t give in but sometimes I feel that it would be so much easier if I could just forget my responsibilities to my kids nutrition intake and let the world of processed foods take over. It was at this almost despairing point that a fairy came to my aid in the form of my mother, who pointed out with a wicked smile that I had been just as bad, not eating anything that was set in front of me.
This didn’t make me feel any better, but the few recipes and tricks that she gave me did make me feel better. At last I now had at least a passing chance at getting my kids nutrition intake in order. Otherwise I was going to have to resort to giving them supplements, there was simply no other way.
If you’re giving your kids baked chicken try breading it first as this might give them the illusion of having fried chicken. Add a little bit of spices to the mix to give it that added taste as well. You could also try making your own burgers. These need not be complicated affairs, and should only contain the most basic of ingredients that you can throw together to create something that looks and tastes like a burger.
And if that doesn’t sort out your kids nutrition worries for you there always a host of other ideas that you can try that will have your kids eating happily at home and with no complaints. Of course you’re bound to come across one or two things that they absolutely won’t eat no matter however much you disguise it, but other than that, you shouldn’t have to worry over whether your kids nutrition levels are what they should be. All it takes is a little perseverance and a “fairy” mother!
